Daily Rhythm Summer Session and Teaching weeks

Daily Monday through Friday:

Breakfast: 07:30-08:30

All students are expected to attend breakfast in the dining hall by 8:30am. Coffee, Tea, toast, cereal, yogurt and fruit are laid out. There is an electric hot plate to cook one’s own egg, if desired. We are led in a prayer to begin, and towards the end of the meal, everyone’s attention is drawn to a short reading to inspire us for the day.

Meal clean-up is performed by everyone on a roster basis.

Morning session: 09:00-12:30

There are two, 3 hour periods in the day, before and after lunch. The morning class session begins at 09:00 and ends at 12:30 with a break, and the afternoon session begins at 13;30 and ends at 17:00.  On days when we are traveling, the class times will not apply.

Tea Breaks

Each work/study period has a pause in the middle as an optional 30 minute Tea Break. The tea/coffee/drinks table  is prepared with an array of tea and biscuits and cordials, and everyone gathers to enjoy a break and conversation.

Lunch: 13:00-14:00

During lunch, everyone participates in a single conversation, facilitated by the worker. The lunch begins by the worker asking if anyone has a question or topic they want the group to talk about.

Meal clean-up is performed by everyone on a roster basis.

Study, Tutorial, or class: 14:00-17:00

When on campus, this time may be used for a class, private study, or garden time. There are many options for a student to pursue; they have access to the physical library, classrooms, the prayer garden, and almost the entire school interior and exterior is available for students’ use.

Dinner: 18:00

Dinners are not formal, and are a time to relax and enjoy each other’s company, be it in continued serious discussion or amicable small talk

Lecture/Bible study: 19:30

On days with lectures, everyone is expected to gather in the Chapel at 19:30. Whoever is speaking, be it guest or worker, usually gives a 45-60 minute presentation on a topic, and then invites the audience to ask and discuss questions concerning the presentation.

On Wednesdays, there is a Bible study and devotional:

Saturday (Teaching weeks/retreats only)

Saturday is a free day, it is also the start and end day of each week for people arriving and departing. Meals are provided, but optional. Local tours and visits are sometimes available. Transportation is included for tours, but entry fees (where relevant) are not.

Sunday (Teaching weeks/retreats only)

Breakfast is between 08:30 and 09:30. There is a prayer meeting after breakfast.

No work periods are assigned to students. Most of the day is free time. There may be creative workshops available, some bikes may be available, local visits may be offered.

The worship service and communion  is in the chapel at 16:00. All students are encouraged to attend.

Dinner is at 18:00 as usual

A word about cell phones. Whereas wifi is available on the premises, and it is understood that it is sometimes essential to communicate with the outside world, we encourage students and workers to limit cell phone use during communal activities like meal times, work time, tutorials and lectures.
